Over the last two weeks Sustain Wiltshire has been pressing ahead with the Super-Midden and has also been making good progress on the Green Industrial development.
Super-Midden update:
Power from gas
We have undertaken a lot of work balancing the Super-Midden gas field and are producing stable gas and eliminating odour from the landfill. We are also in discussions with our gas network contractor on the design of the fast-reacting cells within the Super Midden.
The engine has been running well on full power and has now produced 5,535,327 kwh of electricity.
Greenhouse progress
We have prepared the site for the first protype greenhouse and we are in detailed design discussions with the contractors to finalise detailed design, including the development of new membrane materials and anchors.
Environment Agency liaison
We have now submitted the Enhanced Pre-Application document to the Environment Agency (EA) detailing the operation of the Super-Midden, and have also met with the regional officers from the EA responsible for our operations. This gave us the opportunity to discuss the Super-Midden concept with them, which they were both interested in and supportive of.
Planning:
Wiltshire Council are yet to respond to our planning application. While the initial queries have all been answered, the application has yet to be logged and we are still awaiting a response from the Council’s planning officers. This is frustrating having paid a £90,000 fee in August.
An update on our grazable industrial unit
On a brighter note, we are in detailed discussions with a prospective tenant for the first industrial unit. We have also met with Normet on the equipment and material supply that will enable construction of the first the grazable industrial unit structure. This will be supplied with power and heat from the gas engine/site network. The prospective tenant are themselves an innovative low carbon company.
Until next time
