Gathering momentum! - Sustain Britain

Building Momentum
Building Momentum

This week marks a significant step towards our goal of publishing our long awaited ‘Greenprint for a Sustainable Britain’.

The ‘Greenprint’ sets out the principles of the Sustain Britain movement, detailing how we aim to motivate and help communities become more self-reliant and self-sufficient. It also explains how the Government can play its part in enabling a more resilient society; one less dependent on imports and the influence of global conglomerates.

With the final internal Greenprint review nearing completion, we will shortly be sharing the Greenprint for peer review. This will allow us to obtain feedback so that we can refine and finalise the document ready for launch at our second Sustain Britain Conference in late summer.

To this end, work has already begun on the design brief for the published version, led by our own Will Crapper and Ewan Davy from Absolute PR and Marketing.

In other news, last week I had the pleasure of attending a regional meeting with the Bank of England and several other local businesses. This gave us the opportunity to outline the Sustain Britain concept. I’m pleased to share that there was much positive sentiment in the room supporting what we are aiming to achieve.

So, it appears that the Sustain Britain movement is indeed gathering momentum, further reinforced by an invitation to attend the Wiltshire Climate Summit, which takes place from 20-21 June at the County Hall, Trowbridge.

If you can’t join us then, we’ll be taking part in panel debates at the Wiltshire Business Show in September. We look forward to seeing you there!

On a global scale – given current international insecurities, trade wars, and the impact of Trump – it is becoming increasingly apparent that liberal Free Market Capitalism and Globalisation is on shaky ground.

This only serves to reinforce the fact that there is a clear and present need for the adoption of Sustain Britain’s concepts nationwide. Only by creating more resilient communities can we hope to weather the decades of turbulence that are coming.

This is not a matter of selfish isolationism. Instead, the Sustain Britain vision is one of collaboration to build a society of self-reliance; one that we can share with others around the world, inspiring and enabling them to develop self-sustaining communities and countries of their own.

Only in this way can we protect our communities from destructive greed and excess – driven by malfunctioning markets that are damaging both society and the planet.

Until next time…

Nick Ash
